A few German leverlocks
Well since I can't buy I think I will start posting a few pictures of knives.
I really love the German leverlock knives....real users and robust and relied on in hunting situations for removing spent shotgun shell's of 12 and 16 bore ,skinning and whatever else German hunters used them for.
They are responsible for my switchblade affliction more so than the Italians which came later as I wanted the coveted shellpuller used by Johnny Cade in the" Outsiders"
I bought a modern hubertus and its pretty decent but different to the JC knife and I had no Bill de Shivs in England unfortunately, so I started looking and waiting like everybody else who has ever coveted one of these knives.I found a few wiedmansheil,A .wingen even an unusua Gustav Branner marked hunter with 2 blades but no shellpullers.
I then found a rare Solingen Gussstahl shellpuller in France with sharpened blade and was over the moon with it as my first ,and just after a better bladed SPRINGER KONIG example again strangely from France unmarked by a maker but made in Germany on the obverse of the blade.
Just recently I added a third which I know nothing about in regards to maker. It is marked BAZAR and has a carbon blade ,SPRINGER on the bottom bolster and a lanyard ,decent construction with steel liners but looks slightly different.
Any help on this one appreciated. Is it German or Japanese? It definitely looks German in construction but a strange drop point blade marked BAZAR throws me.
I havnt cleaned any up yet but may have plenty of time now I can't buy.Sometimes I like knives in their own aged state....especially workers like these.
Anyway I took afew shots a while back and will post them here.
Any comments welcomed.

Re: A few German leverlocks
Do the pullers actually fit 12 &16 ga shot shells? The Japanese knives don't.
Most of the Japanese shell pullers have brass fittings, but yours shure smells Nippon to me!

Those are great!

Bill
I never thought of that about the actual pullers fitting the shells.
Just looking at the pictures I posted they look totally different on the BAZAR compared to the 2 german examples .I have no 12 gauge shells and the knives are well away from me at present to check properly.
I suppose what threw me was the nickle /steel bolstersand, thick steel liners ,and pick bone scales its pretty well put together .
Have you any idea of its age if its Japanese Bill?
Thanks whippersnapper my freind....just trying to keep the forum alive for newer and older members alike.
I hope your well mate.

Re: A few German leverlocks
The Japanese levers were made post-WW2. There is one seen in the 1954 "Godzilla" movie.
My THEORY is that Japanese Bazars are post-war and Germans are pre-war. But, they could have been made concurrently post-war.
The Japanese Bazars seem to be the only Japanese knives that used jigged bone that looks even remotely like the German knives.
Most Japanese bone looks like it was cut in a crosshatch pattern with a file.

Re: A few German leverlocks
Thanks Eric and texans123 for the kind words. Its harder to get these in now from France and Germany.
Thanks Bill
I have seen the japanese Godzilla knives with red kriss crossed bone scales and brass small pullers .
This looked slightly more refined but the blade shape is very strange almost trying to be clip and drop point .
The more I look it shouts Japanese .
Thanks for your help on the ID my freind.

If Photobucket wouldn't have screwed everyone a few years back there would be lots more pictures you could have learned from, bastards!
