The idea i had was to leave the scales a bit longer and create a small tail that would slip under the rear bolsters and held together with one pin. Trying to figure out how i will do the top bolster without interfering with the push button mechanism.
This would of course, need to be a picklock as the top bolsters would not be able to swivel.
Thanks for all the input guys!
That's about exactly what I did with the lip on the front scale at the top and slid it under the bolster, I dident do it lightly tho, with a wood like burl with no constant grain it worry's me about the humidity and temperature changes warping
and misshaping causing the scale to lift off the handle and brake, I knew with only doing this on the top and bolting it down on the bottom it would hold the scale down and keep it from warping and braking, I still had the minor issue of
the tab I left under the bolster snapping, so I had to very carefully drill small holes trough the tab and into the scale to keep it somewhat ridged. I believed it worked out just fine for a display knife but I'm still concerned about it... But to be
Completely honest the only reason I did all this to begin with is because I only had just enough of this burl to do one set of scales (and I do mean JUST enough) and I liked the scales so much that I did not want to ruin it or split it by peening
It incorrectly.. so in short I'm happy it worked out but I defiantly wouldn't recommend it to an experienced builder or anyone who would have another choice. Yes it worked and yes it will probably hold but it defiantly wouldn't hold to a heavy or moderate
Use knife. You just have to have something physically holding the scales down!!! Although a must say I would love nothing more than to be proven wrong!
