Maxam knives

Post by pashley »

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has heard of Maxam knives? I am considering buying one which looks nice on the internet but I enjoy high quality knives and like to hold before I buy!

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Yes ,i have handled one (a friend "won" it - if you could call it winning! on evilbaya few months ago) it was a fixed blade and a complete POS.
If as you indicate you enjoy high quality knives i would stay as far away as possible.
The one i handled was the same as this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... tegory=475
Be warned

That knife has United Cutlery written all over it. A fine specimen from China.

excellent... thanks for the advice! I thought the one I saw was a little too cheap to be quality!

the one I liked the look of was this one...

Does anyone know of a knife that is of a similar design but of superior quality?

The second one you showed is even worse. They are Pakistani fantasy knives and again UC is all over it.You don't need tricks and doodad cutaways on a knife you just need an honest good steel knife.

If its a fixed blade you want ,Evilbay has a couple of cheap Buck 119's at the moment.
They are not flash but I've had one for years and it just won't lie down.
For a couple of $'s more than the Maxam they are worlds apart in build quality.

I sell a lot of the Maxam brand knives and I would say 75% of them are great for the money. I only have the pocket knives and I don't try to compare them to a Buck so take it as you may. I have one that I think is so well made and should even cost twice as much, that one I would put up to any knife of the same size build.

Heres a couple of pictures of it, Great knife!

sorry but I do like the design.

it's something different from the others in my collection which are mostly hand made from sheffield steel and so are of traditional design.

I was just wondering if any of you guys have seen something with a similar design but made well with quality steel?

Just buy it and see what it's like ,it's not exactly going to break the bank.

If it's the knuckle duster that floats yer boat then check out the WW1 trench knife here http://www.bikernet.com/garage/PageView ... PageID=101

Not that much with a sheath about $3 to maybe $400. Worth more historicly then anything else as the co Landers Frey & Clark went out of business in 1965 and started in 1862.
