masai warrior machete

Post by jammin636 »

hey everyone,
im new to this forum but have been a collector of all kinds of knives since i was little. couple months ago i took trip to africa to climb mnt kilimonjaro. i traded this boy my shirt for his machete. it was a real nice blade. gave me the sheath and everything. wanted to get some responses on how much it could be worth. its a true masai warrior machete and must be hand made.
thanks

A picture would be most helpful otherwise I could be giving you false info because what if you really have a Zulu knife which most tourists turn their back on.

how do you post a picture up? the machete is double sided with a rounded tip. the handle is red, feels like wrapped cow hide or somethin. the sheath is also red cowhide with a brown strap.

Easy one-it's called a seme, and it's a traditional weapon used by the tribesmen of Kenya, the Masai and other tribes.
The rudimentery grip shifts the weight of the blade to the sweet spot just aft of the point.
It's a cutting sword, but may be used for thrusting sometimes.
In the Mau-Mau rebellion, it was a common sidearm for the tribal fighters, along with the panga, a curved jungle knife.
