Dad's Old Timer
I'd given this knife to my dad as a Christmas present some thirty -plus years ago. Mom returned it to me after his passing in 2010. There was a sticky, green tarnish on the brass and about 1/16" of the tip was broken off the blade. I had left it alone all this time in between. I thought about contacting Schrade to see about replacing the blade but never did. Yesterday I cleaned it up. Laquer thinner took the green stuff off and Scotch Brite shined the blade up a bit. Then I took a page from my rehab job and carefully re contoured the back edge until the tip was sharp again. Here's how it turned out. I wish I'd thought to take some "before" pics.

Re: Dad's Old Timer
Nice job. Glad you were able to salvage it and hopefully you will have happy memories of your dad when you use it.
Re: Dad's Old Timer
Thanks, LGustin. I don't expect to use it as I have plenty of utilitarian knives and don't want to risk more damage to it but I do plan on keeping it and passing it down to my son who shares my enthusiasm for knives of all kinds.

Nice old knife Luke.
Great with the connection to your Dad and the fact you too can pass it on to your son .
I had a Schrade old timer a long time ago and wish I had kept it ,good user knife with a useful shaped blade .
Restoration looks good ,not over shiny .

Re: Dad's Old Timer
Yes, Ian, I wanted to clean it up without going so far as to try and make it look unused. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Thanks for your kind comments.
