Hadnt seen this topic here, so I thought I would bring it up.
Does it matter to you if an auction has a reserve?
Does it make a difference whether its a $1 reserve price?
What if the reserve is closer to what you expect to pay for a knife?
Ill answer these for myself after yall take a crack at em.

when i auction something i never put a reserve on it - but start the bidding where i feel happy letting it go should only one bid be placed.
as far as bidding goes, i don't care if it has a reserve, but prefer to bid on no reserve items, it seems more like a true auction that way. one thing i hate is a reserve price that's a buck or two less than a "buy it now" price...

Dunno about KA and BA, but on eBay you pay for most items, including the level you start the bidding and for a reserve. By the time you get through adding up all the fees, up to 10% of the selling price goes to online services. Any time you can eliminate one of them it's that much more for the seller.
As a bidder I don't like reserves.
