Knife No-Nos

our collective less-than-magical-moments with this,
our beloved hobby.
knife let you down? :( light you up?
:P how did you break that anyway :P

some of wisdom that ends-up here could be just as,
important and enlightning as the generous factual-truths that abound here..this is the forum where we talk all-about blades, right?

I reground a Shrade that someone had used to jump a solenoid with.
Boy was that an adventure, [but maybe not as exciting as you hoped for].

Knife no-no #1:

Don't drink and play with your new BM 940 late at night.
It will cut your finger.

Knife no-no #2:

Don't get a fever and play with your still new BM 940 the next night.
It will cut your finger just a mm away from yesterdays cut.
This time it will not stop bleeding for 12 hours.

Knife no-no #3:

will update tomorrow, when I get my third cut.

Do not use a not-so-sharp knife to cut Styrofoam (I have no idea why I thought I needed to do so). What can occur is for the Styrofoam to break as opposed to being cut, and then the knife suddenly ends up slicing one's finger to the knuckle/bone. Lots of blood, and then I'm not so keen on seeing my own sub-dermal components. A few decades later, the scar has mostly disappeared. Sadly enough, so has the knife (Buck 112, I think).

a couple years ago i used an old filletknife to salvage
the cord from a really beat-up chestfreezer.

 i should have used dykes because
the line-current instantly fragged that blade and might have killed me. i was in a hurry and instinctively used the knife without
ever even checking BOTH ends of the cord.

Wow, sub-dermal components and electrocution all in one topic. We should have a yearly Keith Relf award. I wonder how many other members have gotten to see their bones as a direct benefit of this hobby. The mind wobbles.

make sure the lever on a lever lock is flipped in the safe position BEFORE you put it in your pocket.

Never use a knife with a questionable lock for heavy gouging, in this case, the air hole in the end of a bong. Deep cut, lots of blood, a good look at the bone of my index finger and a nice scar. Also when your aimlessly clicking open one of your knives make sure all your fingers, and other body parts are clear (OUCH!).

Trying to make a hole for a toggle switch with a non-locking blade is even dumber.

Always use a disposable clone for carving a stick while fishing from a canoe...when you bury it in your thigh and flip over in the ensuing pandemonium you will lose it along with all the beer...several dive attempts rarely results in recovery so use a cheapie.
