Pocket knives made in China

Post by partsproduction »

I recently bought a Buck (375-1) for $13.95 while in Osceola Arkansas on a flight across this great country in a light plane I had just bought (No nasty pocket knives allowed on airlines flying to NC to take delivery!). When I looked at it I thought "Wow, what great workmanship!" Then I saw "China" stamped on the blade. I did a google search and found that Buck had set up a factory in China. Comparing this knife to an older US made knife the difference in quality is huge! I feel like a traitor saying that! Now I just bought a Kissing crane peanut that was made in China, I'll see if it's as good. The belief I've always held is that price and quality in a free market evens out and competition breeds high quality products at affordable prices. This is however the great sucking sound Perot talked about, and it's become a ROAR! It's not a free market! The problem is caused by liberals who make laws that make it almost impossible to make products in this country, and 50 years of it still hasn't taught them the lessons, and we suffer for it. An old machine shop owner once told me "It's not where it's made that matters, it's how much the importer is willing to pay" that determines quality. Chinese knives, really nice. It's over for America I'm afraid.

Free Enterprise, free trade and free market, have done MINIMAL damage - FREE REIGN to ludicrous, liberal, legislation has KILLED competition [and OUR future] :!: :idea: :x
OSHA has probably saved a few dozen lives and DESTROYED millions [with their regulations/restristions] :!:
EEOC has brought some "equality" but magnified the "Peter Principal" exponentially :roll:

No nasty knives on any commercial flight [as "carry-on", o.k. in checked luggage] :idea:
My 20 cm Fish saw almost as much of Colorado as I did :lol:

I for one am sick and tired of finding the words, "Made In China", stamped on just about every goddam thing I pick up. Everytime I have an issue with my computer, I get to talk to some asshole in India. Today my wife got laid off from her job along with the rest of her dept. because the company has decided to farm out their work to a sub-contractor in India. My country in going to hell in a handbasket. Glad I'm turning 62. I won't have to see this crap for too many more years.

I can relate. If I was honest I'd have 30 or more former employers on my resume' ONE of them is still in business.
None "died" from a lack of worker productivity :!:
They went chapter 11 for one of about 3 reasons [in no order];
Bad management.
Bad legislation. [OSHA EEOC etc, etc.]
"Framing out" [related to reason 1].
[since my Grandfather was a locksmith, I've seen confidential memos between "biggies" stating how much they can save in wages, not salaries by farming out :evil:
The savings are then divied-up as bonuses until there is nothing left to divide :roll:
At that point it's golden parachute or see ya depending on your position :evil:
There has been a dramatic downturn in the economy since the "loyal opposition" took over both houses of our elected "leadership" but the executive will get the blame because no-one will admit that their vote for "change" has done SO MUCH damage.
Our dollar to euro exchange rate has been disasterous to us [collectors] and HURT our suppliers. BUT the last 4 years have been the WORST since I started collecting :idea:
If [in the fall] the "change" includes all 3 of our branches of government expect much WORSE.
You can NOT tax yourself into prosperity :idea:

A well written novel "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand was very prophetic in 1957. Try "The Fountainhead"

Both Parties have left the building----- and now it's collapsing. What do they really think they'll have left to govern when the SHTF

Yes, a 1947 Luscombe 8-E, 100 HP, we flew it across the country to Oregon, 5 days during the major hail and tornado spell. We had to detour a bit.

Mr. V;
looks like we kinda hijacked this thread. Another good link:

What a sad state this nation has become. We seem to want to emulate the Socialist system which recent history (USSR) has shown to fail. The views being expressed here are ridiculed by a large portion of this nations population. Seems like the sheeple can't wrap their minds around actual logic anymore. Enough rant from the deep South, gotta get ready for the night shift, somebodies gotta pay taxes to float the bums.

A "little" socialism is like "little" kidney stone :lol:
When the Soviet Union expired, Russian goods started flooding in and I bought a [Russian] Shotgun, Pistol, and night vision device. If Yeltsin hadn't been ousted and hardliners elected we would not be worried about Chinese stuff we would be buried in Russian stuff :idea: [The quality IS better].

partsproduction,

Cool, the reason I asked is that a good friend of mine owns a company that sells various types of aircraft. You didn't happen to buy it from a company based in the Greensboro/Winston Salem/Sailsbury area did you?

"a little" socialism is like "little" kidney stone" goes down as another Vagrant classic. There are now a good many Vagrantisms in my vocabulary :)
