Buck 110 drop-point

Post by sonnyboy »

One of the regulars at the Buck Forum at BladeForums sent me this pic...

Image

I can't tell if it is a ground-down clip-point 110, or a custom blade...BTW: it says "426" on the tang...

I can do without the white stag scales...but I do like that blade!!!

I'm told this was a blade from the early '80's Bucklite 426 that the Custom Shop put on a special run of 110's...

I've seen pics of several "Limited Edition" and "Custom" Bucks, and they all seem to do away with the scale pins...even the rockerbar pin...

Are they glued on???

I have seen some that had hidden pins. Usually it was a short barbed pin inserted from the inner side of the liner, then peened and filed flat. I have done a few scale replacements and used really small brass screws. If you chamfer the hole a little bit, and grind the head flush, it turns out great. I like to put a drop of super glue on the threads to keep them from backing out over time.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that part, I usually drill a hole about 1/8" deep in both scales and cut the pin down to fit. It's similar to the floating pin used in the Massaro Old Fashioned and Leverlettos.

The earliest Bucks were fixed blades made from carbon steel, [using old files] these WERE damn good blades

Was in wally world couple weeks ago and to my surprise... Buck released a 110 with a beer bottle popper, all decked out in a collector's tinnie. Well at the grand sum of TWENTY THREE buck dollars, I proclaimed it SOLD!

The only bummer, is the sheath tucked safely below the tray was nylon.
For that kinda money, I really didnt expect a sheath nohow.

The steel Buck uses is pretty decent, certainly good enough for average tasking. At the price, you don't worry about scratching it.
