Cold Steel Tanto ?
Hi all, I always doubt the originality 'of this Cold Steel "TANTO". It was given in 1994, but over the writing of the model, nothing appears on the blade. Original box (Which now I have no more ') was black with white lettering Cold Steel. Do you think it is a fake or perhaps a pre series? Thank you

My guess would be if you have had it since 1994 it is the real thing.
Although Cold Steel has always marked their knives with the CS logo and usually marked them Made In Japan or Taiwan.
To be certain contact Cold Steel directly with your query and include the photos.

There are a few things to considering a Cold Steel knife's value- One is where it's made.
If it is made in Japan the value is much higher than if it is Taiwanese. However there is nothing wrong with knives made in Taiwan.
For a short time in the 80's some Cold Steel knives were made in the USA.
Another factor on value is the steel,they had what I think was called Carbon V steel (?) and then they have a laminated steel called San Mai.
Both are excellent steels but the San Mai would be worth more.
San Mai is three layers,a hard core/edge and two softer more flexible outer layers. If you look at the spine of the knife you could see the three layers,if not then it would be regular steel. They also used some AUS-8 steel.
As for value it's difficult to say without the original box it's hard to determine where it's made since it doesn't say on the blade.
You can look around on ebay and see what others are selling for. It may at least give you some idea.
