Where should I look for uncut plastic pieces for scales?

This is a place where you can sell or buy your knives.

Where should I look for uncut plastic pieces for scales?

Post by JimBrown257 »

I am having a 7" Rizzuto fixed up and rescaled. I was thinking of having blue or red plastic scales put on it.

Can anyone recommend a good place to look for uncut plastic pieces? I'd like to find somewhere that has a wide variety of colors as I want to see what other options I have.

Thanks!

I hadn't even considered that. They're probably cheaper there than when sold for specific purposes.

Thanks for the tip!

Thanks, Dave; that stuff looks pretty good.

I'm thinking about blue carbon-fiber:

Or, maybe orange G-10:

I'm going to Photoshop some different colors onto a picture of the Rizzuto. I think I want to have something really uncommon. Like something we've never seen on a Rizzy.

On a Rizzuto ....you want the scale material to be 3/8" thick...so you can get that nice rounded original look....Nemo

Both Rockler and Woodcraft sell a WIDE selection of small acrylic (and exotic wood) blocks used for making custom pens. They're the perfect size for knife scales. Just get on either of their sites and look up "Pen Blanks". Hope this helps. ---j

Masecraft.com, USA knife maker supplies, http://www.interstateplastics.com/; Google it you'll find what you're looking for.

I thought I'd let people know my search turned out (on the one year anniversary of the OP, coincidentally-enough). I got several sheets of Plexiglas from a place called eStreet Plastics (they aren't associated with Springsteen as far as I can tell).

I really like using Plexiglas as it is pretty easy to work with. This place has all sorts of colors, as well as fluorescent and transparent colors.

Unfortunately, the only color that comes in any thickness over 1/4" is black. But 1/4" is thick enough for most scales.

Anyways, if anyone is looking for Plastic for scales, this place was pretty good.

I use Corian Samples. You can buy them cheap off coriansamples.com and come in many colors. Corian is not as brittle as Plexiglass either.

Yeah, I've got some Corian I've used. It takes forever to sand but it is really strong.

The stuff I have is off-white (it used to be a kitchen counter) but I'd like to check out some other stuff.

I can't find that Coriansamples.com page. Did you put in the right address?

Thanks, Trent!

I found this sample request form:
http://www2.dupont.com/Contact/en_US/py ... ralux.html

Do you think I could use that to get some free Corian? And what would I check/write on the form?
