Looking for 11" Beltrame Swinger *FOUND*

Post by JimBrown257 »

Hello,

I am trying to replace an 11" Black Horn Beltrame Swinger that I traded about a year ago. I was sure I'd be able to get a new one real easily. However, the blade market can be fickle and one day they're just gone. I mean, I know many of you have them and they do pop up from time to time on the auctions and seller sites, I just always miss them. When they pop up on seller sites, they are usually more than I want to spend because they are new. The one I had was bought as a defect for a few superficial cracks and a loose guard.

So I'm hoping on finding another used one, even one that has minor defects, as long as they don't hinder it's performance. Mind you, I'm not looking for one that's completely trashed.

Preferably, I'm looking for black horn with a dagger blade but I'm interested in seeing whatever other Beltrame Swingers you have. Or, for that matter, I'll take a look at any other swingers you might have.

Just PM me if you can help.

Thanks,

-J

Hello Jim

El Indio here. I have a light horn swing guard I will sell for $155.00 firm. it is a 11" with flat button half grind blade, flat button, red dot safety, and has 2006 etched on the tang. If you need pictures I'll have to have my daughter post them as I don't know how. PM me.

I think the dark horn swingaurd with a dagger blade has been one of my favorites too.
Been able to get a few of them customized.
There is one down in the case with a bayo that Frank put engraved bolsters on.
There is also one Smallfoot made a skull out of antler for a button. The kriss blades with the skulls, SloJoe did some very nice file work on.

Hey Marko, awesome collection of swingers. Congrats.

Can't speak for Marko, but the large 18" looks like blonde horn.

But did you notice that it has a two-piece scale?

Is that an aesthetic thing or was is from a repair job or what?

Could be a design element, result from a repair or they couldn'tfind horn big enough for the size of the knife.

Glad you found what you were looking for.

Thank you for the kind words.

That was the way that it was made. Some place there is a series of photos of it and the other few when they were being made.
I'm not sure why he made this one with the scales in four pieces of blonde horn but it was the only one that was made this way.
The other side actually has more color to it.

I found the series that I was looking for. It was part of Fredde10 Goes to Italy. The pictures are on Sharper Deals There is a a copy right note not to share the pictures but can share the link so here it is.

http://www.sharperdeal.com/fredde10/italytrip.htm

This knife can be seen on Pascotto's bench on Fredde's last day in Maniago. He did a wonderful job on his pictorial. I never tire of looking at it.

...I finally found it on the third or forth page (and these are long pages).

Is your's the actual knife we see being constructed in the pictures?

At first I thought he might have just not had a large enough piece of horn so he had to put two smaller ones together but in the pictures that follow, there are 7 or 8 large Catalana's that have that same two-piece scale so I'm atucally prone to believe it is a style-thing. It does look pretty cool; kind of like a shirt with a single stripe across it. Also, with the quality of that work, it would seem pretty out-of-place to go for some kind of patch-up job if the scale material weren't big enough.

Btw, if anyone hasn't followed that link Markco posted to the pictorial, you definitely need to do so.

Mr. JimBrown257,

Why do you use quotes and delete the attribution?

Why do you use quotes and delete the attribution?
Cause I want all the credit!!!

But seriously,
JerrBear wrote:Why do you use quotes and delete the attribution?
I often just want to quote the part of the comment that I'm responding to in my post, as opposed to having the entire comment in my post. Of course, a lot of times, the part I quote is the only thing in that comment; I realize it is easier to hit the button that puts the enitre post and attribution in my post but, at this point, it's just kind of a force of habit to hit the "quote" box and C&P in the line from the post.

If you go up four posts from this one, you can see an example of how I only wanted to respond to one line of the comment in my response to Markco.

So I don't actually delete the person's name; it just doesn't get put in there the way I do it. I do, however, often type in the poster's name at the begining of my response.
