The writers of that show were about as far left as you could find, certainly for that day. I remember an entire show devoted to an attempt to justify racial preferences whereby the less the qualified got placed and the more qualified were left to twist in the wind. The subtext was that two wrongs made a right.

The writers attempted to make Archie look like a fool, but given the current state of affairs, his positions make a lot of sense these days. He should be given his own Book, understanding of course that the Old Testament is pretty much cast in stone...

Yeah Michael and Gloria were always protesting something and you are right,the writers wanted to make Archie look racist and/or foolish.
Seems like there was an episode where Edith made a racial comment and the entire show was around the subject.
