Hard to tell Almost all are in my 1967 catalog if I ever get a Powermag it will have the date stamped [in 2 digits] on it. the Herter's/Dam reel is not in the catalog and I believe it is from the '50s [if I remember my childhood correctly]Viking45 wrote:Just curious, what is the oldest Herter's item you have?

Herter's claimed - "This is the finest big game or law enforcement revolver..."
Maybe, just possibly, in '61, when the 401 was introduced a FEW [very few] Cops still carried a single-action but, "ideal"
In '68 [if my memiry is correct] they DID list a double-action .401 BUT, I have never seen one or ever seen one listed for sale, ANYWHERE [else] ! Considering, at that time, most Cops carried a .38 - a double-action .401 WOULD have been much closer to ideal
However, three years later the, almost a clone, .41 magnum was introduced - an equally impressive round but, only a few of us eccentrics have one of those
The 401 is long dead
The 41 has been "on life support" for 46 years
Both deserve[d] better

My cousin gave my dad a blued S&W 41 mag back in the mid 80's.
I really enjoyed shooting it and you could actually find ammo back then too.
Now that I look back I wish I would have talked my dad out of that one.

Ammo for the .41 is pretty easy to findViking45 wrote:My cousin gave my dad a blued S&W 41 mag back in the mid 80's.

Ammo for the .401 is an entirely different story
Both are great rounds but, the .41 refuses to die, despite being on "life support"

Are those new "old" stock? Never seen the little safety thingy's before.
You would like my original Rapala minnow lure I bought in 1973 at Sears.
It is still in the box and even has paperwork. Made In Finland of course.
If memory serves me right the hard palstic lid had a little bit of deformation from a plastic worm laying on top of it.
And what's the deal with that? I had an old tackle box that had a bunch of melted plastic storage trays from those worms. What the heck did they have in them?
Like to know where to catch one of these.

Lures ARE original, new old stock [probably from the '60s] the hook guards were used [by the seller] for shippingViking45 wrote:Are those new "old" stock? Never seen the little safety thingy's before.

Like to know where the lake is that has these kinds of fish.

I've NEVER experienced "worm burn" on anything
Most, NEWER tackle boxes have changed the plastics mix to reduce the problem
But, the mix that makes worms soft can be agressive to other plastics, and/or the finish used on many lures.
I've never seen anything that resembles a LOT of lures
The effectiveness seems to be similar to a cat and inquisitiveness

Re: Age check ;]
Very nice! Is that little pad above the right breast pocket for spare flys?
Seems like I saw something like that before.(can ya tell I'm not much of a fisherman?)
Actually I love to fish, and even more so love eating them.

Actually used for drying, Dry Flies that no longer floatViking45 wrote:Very nice! Is that little pad above the right breast pocket for spare flys?
But when I had one before, I kept a spare spinner or two, on it
And I can't stand fish - the Only fish I eat is tuna fish
Re: Age check ;]
I find this strange because I have met many anglers through the years and many if not most do not care for eating thier catch.(you fellers must be in it for the sport)Vagrant wrote:Actually used for drying, Dry Flies that no longer floatViking45 wrote:Very nice! I love fish, rainbow's,cats, bluegill and perch are excellent, crappie and walleye are some of my faves. And some ocean dwellers like flounder, halibut and cod. You catch'em,I'll eat'em. (however I do support the catch and release program)

The sport is everything [for me], that and trying to outwit something with a brain the size of a BB

Science tells us brain size has nothing to do with it.Vagrant wrote:The sport is everything [for me], that and trying to outwit something with a brain the size of a BB
(thank God)
Ravens have proven to be amazing problem solvers as do many birds.
Pigs have a much higher IQ than a dog.
Seals, narwhals, belugas, porpoise, dolphins and orcas have been shown to have higher IQ's than chimps.
What's to say about humans? The monkey in a suit?
