Samurai sword / 19th century handle
Thought I'd put up a couple of photos of a Samurai sword that my uncle brought back from WW2. Was never able to pull up the info under the handle but was told the handle dates back to the 1860's and there was some German influence. I am not very educated concerning Samurai swords. Automatic knives are my hobby.

Never seen a hilt like that. Looks to be designed to be two handed like a traditional katana. If you drift out the dowel on the lower part of the handle, you can then remove the blade. On the tang will be lots of info, the maker, the date or period, etc. Of course it will all be in Japanese, but take a picture and someone can translate for you.

I did, but the carbon paper I used did not have much luck. I was using a kit my Dad got back in 1976. I'll try again soon. Thanks'
