New to me

Post by frosolone »

A friend found this at a flea market. Never seen this mechanism on these knives. Any info would be appreciated.

Looks like a "toggle release". Very rare I'd say, as I've only seen a few "toggle release" knives. I've never seen a knife like yours.

Sweet find. I think Jerryk25 has a pic of a toggle release knife, he might also be the owner.

EDIT: Here's a thread where Jerry25k posted pics of several toggle knives- viewtopic.php?f=5&t=30455

Is the knife automatic?
That mechanism was used on Japanese lockblades in the 1970s to unlock the blade.

Very interesting. It's a backspring-release mechanism, but it's one I have never seen.

Great find frosolone ,never seen one before .
I like the stamp on the blade aaswell, just cant quite make out the name
Reminds me a bit of the Mexican bullfighter leverlock tourist knives .I wonder if its related to them in anyway?
You find some great knives on your travels keep them coming .

Thanks, it's owned by my brother in laws father. Tried buying but he won't let it go. He told his son it's mine when he's gone. The stamp looks like your 4th one done in your photo, a swan or duck.

Frosolone

These examples are not mine unfortunately ,I found them here on TB ,to show the similarites of your knife to the bullfighter leverlocks
As I posted on my phone I completely missed the duck on the 4th one down ,old eyes i'm afraid.Must be a mexican maker ,or maybe an outlet for these knives .
I sure hope you get the knife one day ,its a really interesting example ,and thanks again for sharing your finds .

None of the knives on this thread were made in Mexico. All were made in Japan.
