Romo seen before

Post by Lucentcrow »

Reading in switchblades of Italy rams horn was introduced in the late 50s but this romo stamp says otherwise I guess it’s an old book.

This Romo is pre 1954 which is really cool because I never thought it was that old when I bought it over a year ago, it’s my favourite knife thick and chunky and all original with the lovely carbon steel blade.

Cheers folks a

That's a beauty right there. I hope to pick up a vintage 9", 10" or 11" picklock myself one of these days.

Is that an 11" or 9"? That would look great in my collection. If you ever want to part with it.

That is a knife to lust over!

The carbon steel blade does place it in the time frame you mention. Sometimes they plated these blades with a thin slayer of nickel which pealed off over time. Yours looks clear of this. The move to stainless steel solved this cosmetic problem....

Very nice example and rams horn as well. How did you date it to pre-1954?

I have an 8-inch Ram ROMO. I hadn't thought about it before, but ROMO was a New York importer so it makes sense that these are pre-1954.

Hi panzerfaust

That’s a beauty mate, yeah that’s cool right I think Bill told me that about the 1954 ban, just interesting that most think rams horn is later.

Yes, and back at you LOL. It too is one of my favorite picklocks because you don't see many with ram's horn. I paid $140 for it at a gun show in 2015 which I thought was a good deal.

Yeah they are great and quite old now, I got this early last year I managed to get it from Miami and a very good bloke helped me on here which I’m grateful for, I think I paid $230 something like that,

I'd say ROMO wasn't too shy of Ram Horn. Here's mine in 8"...
