1960s.
I believe the "Import" marking shows it was imported to great Britain or Canada.
The date would be before those countries outlawed importation of switchblades.

I don't know when Canada banned switchblades, but Great Britain did in 1959. I think "Import" was also stamped on knives imported into Germany.

Agreed. Those marked “FOREIGN” were sent to England before 1959. Those marked Rostfrei Import were sent to Germany.

Not so sure the "import" marked knives were for Germany. I would love to see something substantiating this.
Why would they be marked "import" in English? What about the hundreds of thousands of Italian stilettos sold in Germany that were NOT marked "import?" It doesn't make sense.

I’ve bought 3-5 stilettos from Germany over the past ten years. All of which had Rostfrei Import in the front or back tang. Seen plenty of others for sale in Germany like this too.

And, what about all those Italians knives sent to Germany and sold by Herbertz? Most of them are marked C. Jul. Herbertz, Import. So nothing uncommon about the use of IMPORT on a knife in Germany.

The vintage ERN, FES and Herbertz catalogs I have are half German and Half English and plenty of other knives in there with English. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Here’s one from 2013.

No, the Ern models. The US was Germany's biggest market from 1950-1975. It makes sense they would be marked in English.
It would be interesting to get to the bottom of it.
