This one's over 30 years old; busted spring.
Worth fixing?

I got my example like yours from Germany some years back .It wss 20 euros back then but seen some go for 100 euros just recently.
Mike ...The stag isnt mine ,it was just an example to show the older type ,or what I see as the older type.
Hope your well mate.

I like that stag of yours. As for repair it would be a labour of love and cursing for an accomplished mangler.
I picture these being made by small italian apprentices as a punishment.
Its really up to you and I dont know if the cost would be more than sourcing another sometime.
I really like them and they can finish off a group photo shots a treat.

The ones with this horizontal INOX are good ones from the 1970s.

Thanks gravknife. I doubt there is anyone who would willingly take the job of spring replacement on.

The stag one is super cool and very old. Two minutes of a clean up to the bottom bolster and it would probably look near new.gravknife wrote: ↑Sun Jun 09, 2019 9:36 pm runninglate
I believe this is a newer example aswell.
The older ones have 6 scale and bolster pins to your five ,and the really older ones have nickle silver hardware aswell as this.
Heres one I have with similar scales not ancient but it has 6 pins ,one for the backspring.
Heres an older one in stag with nickle mounts aswell.
Great little knives and conversation pieces.
They are selling well as stated here and will get rarer.

Re: Any help on what this is?
The older minis used brass liners and separate nickel silver bolster-just like the picklocks of the same time period. Sometime prior to 1972, the construction was changed. The newer minis use handle halves that are stamped out of brass. The bolsters and liners are all one piece. These liner/bolster pieces are then nickel plated. After the knives are assembled, the edges of the handle are ground-exposing the underlying brass, and giving the impression of brass liners with nickel bolsters. You can see this in some of the pictures in this thread.
Since I'll be asked about the 1972 date- I bought them in 1972, and they were new construction.

The really new ones have liners that are made of zinc. If you try taking the front scale off, the liner breaks at the top scale pins with the minimumist of pressure.
Another thing about those new ones with the plated bolsters: NEVER polish the bolsters. It leaves them with a really bad looking purple streak.
