Switchblade Stiletto with screw blade pin.

Post by Tarnow47 »

Guts,
Im new here, and have a question.
If I have an Armondo Beltrame 9" stiletto that has a 2 piece screw holding the blade on, is it fake?

Can you post a picture? I know there were some frank b. that were like that and I'm sure someone here will know for sure.

Can't tell for sure without a pic but there were some novelty stilettos coming out of maniago in the last 10 years that had interchangeable blade pieces being the bottle opener, comb, and the actual blade. This could be one of them but I only heard of Frank making those, but him and his brother Armando tend to make very similar stuff both in quality and the types of products - the ones I've bought, that is...

Alternatively a screw in place of the pin could have been an aftermarket modification to rectify an issue such as excessive blade-play or replace the blade entirely (possibly cadavering an Armando blade to put on a compatible Frank knife)

I don't think I've ever heard of a faked AB stamp so I would guess your knife is a real one that had the original pivot taken out and someone put a screw in to replace it. Or an AB blade might have been put on a kit knife handle, in which case the handle might not be an actual Italian (though it could be a FB kit).

If you can post a pic, that would be helpful.

Here's a couple old EDGECO kit knives with a screw pivot. The stag is stamped Italy and the the blue is stamped Taiwan.

I will as soon as I figure out how.
The knife isnt bad, but the screws loosen up.
Does anyone know where to buy the blade pin rivets?
Besides the one place I know and rather not deal with.

Use some lock tight or thread locker on the screw threads. Even a drop of super glue will work in a pinch.

As far as pivot pins most of the guys who work on knives make their own. Easiest is probably to just use a nail turned down to the correct diameter.

Don't mean to intrude on this thread, but I just saw a new listing on SDs of a 8.5" Frank B that the scales are all in place with tiny screws instead of pins. I only mention this as I had never seen or heard of this before. Odd to me but surely I'm far from an expert.

Wow! That's really Frank B? Seems rather un-traditional.

Yeah that's the production line that Frank Beltrame fans and collectors like to pretend never happened...

No idea if he's still making/selling them but they were supposed to be an affordable answer to the cheap Asian ripoffs that fans who couldn't afford his regular models were settling for. All-in-all they probably ended up serving more of a "kit knife" purpose for people living in places where the real deal can't be shipped in one piece, but honestly their price wasn't a far cry from his classic pieces anyways.
