The only info I could find is "teak" wood from Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe Teak also known as Zambezi Teak
Makes good furniture but not sure about knife scales.

Well, since I'm talking about imitation. we can be confident that it'll be OK. Thanks for looking.

The little I was able to glean mentioned petrified, or fossil wood. From Zimbabwe.

I have one of those new flat ground swing guards coming(I got two others in dark horn and some very pretty agate type acrylic. These are very nice knives, sure hope to get one in stag horn! The knives are smooth and well finished, this is what a Rizzuto might have been with better quality control, and materials.

Happy New Year to all!

In the interest of saving space and developing sort of a database, maybe this should be grouped in with the imitation horn thread.

To be semi-serious, we can merge these threads, because imitation horn and imitation Zimbabwe wood are the same thing, acrylic plastic.

I've noticed that there have been any number of really creative acrylic scales, including glow-in-the-dark plastic. Some of the faux agates are really pretty, and there are imitation staghorn scales that cannot be distinguished from the real thing, save by the hot pin test.

But just as real horn is subject to beetles, acrylic will turn into powder if exposed to sunlight for long periods.

Sic transit gloria mundi.

So imitation Zimbabwe Wood is what Dracula used for scales on all his switchblades? You gotta hate that sunlight!

Vlad was known to favor white Pearlex scales for his switchblades. They went with his dinner suit, and vampires are sooo vain.

Wood of any sort gives vampires the creeps.

Mr. Krak,

But if the "wood" is imitation, any self-respecting nosferatu would know that there is nothing to fear. Drive an acrylic stake through their heart? Big deal! Vampires don't have to be springer collectors to know that plastic sucks. In fact and because of that (the fact that it sucks, that is), they might actually prefer plastic. This is a question for the "Ask Renfield" website.
