in the original RED DAWN there appeared to be either an auto or a gravity knife. it was when the tank stopped for gas and the soldiers took the package from the girl and it exploded the soldier with the blue beret opened it when he started chaseing the girl.

also steve mcqueen had a springer in wanted dead or alive season 2 episode 11 he cut open the water bag.

Could be but the knife in Greed looks a lot bigger than that model. In the same scene, Marcus throws the knife at McTeague. You can see the thing more clearly and it is a hand full.

Steve McQueen has flashed a lever in at least two episodes of Wanted: Dead or Alive.
Once on a leather strap another slicing an apple.

Caught this tonight on HULU. Of course the old Frenchman is a bad guy and his goon hands him what looks like a 7 or 8 inch stiletto, too small to be a nine.

An old clip of Peter Lorre on the Jack Benny Show. Jack has a splinter in his finger and Peter snaps open his stiletto to help out.
Here is the YouTube video if anyone is interested- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AghBcsjTWok

The clip point lever lock he used in "M" would have been a better choice for splinter removal. Still, Peter shows familiarity with both picklocks and leverlocks as every good villain should....

Saw that Last ship episode, snapped in and out.
It looked to be a double edged and partially serrated blade, definetly got results!

I love how the 1950s Italian stiletto has been in westerns. I guess it's just so cool that it even looks in place before its time.

Yeah James Coburn stuck one in a guy in the Magnificent Seven. A Frosolone would have been a better choice in this situation but it shows you ole James was very familiar with this knife.
