Knife Mechanisms by LeRoi Price - Book

Has anyone read or seen this particular book? I'm wondering if it has much Italian information. BO/BC, Square button, D stamp etc. As someone who has nver seen the insides of the various versions I'm thinking this book might be helpful for novices.

Re: Question about how Paul Panak builds stiilettos

Thank you for that follow up Bill. I noted Paul's description information about how he makes stilettos has been unchanged for many years and just wondered about the odd mention of "forging" the lock tab. I love how well finished his stilettos are especially those early Sam Polk tribute squarebuttons.

Question about how Paul Panak builds stiilettos

I noticed that Mr. Panak, on his website, mentions that he actually hand forges his back spring lock tabs for his stilettos. I'm wondering why he might do that and why. Is he actually forging the back spring with all that the word forging implies? ie: hammering the back spring and tab on an anvil to...

Wow. Gives you an idea how far medical science has come. It will be interesting to see how much that goes for.

Re: Question about C.O.D. payments

Autoknife, thank you for reply here as elsewhere to my Latama post. While you may not have picked up on it, there were broader questions raised in that post such that the Latama square button and direct knowledge of it wasn't necessary to "weigh in". The post broached the topics of patents, the "Swi...

Re: Latama Square Button questions

Actually the post was meant to illicit some discussion not necessarily facts as you surmised, ...it goes without saying that opinions are always welcome concerning topics of shared interest on any 'enthusiasts forum. Glad to hear you're such an 'old forum hand' and get a laugh at what you presume is...

Re: shaping firing spring

Hi Bill, is there any particular reason you choose to use 1095 for springs? I ask as I have read mention of 416 S/S and other steels being used for springs. Would of thought there would be one steel considered 'the best' for spring work? :?

Cheers, Ted.

Re: Okay Missa jerri axed

I haven't been a forum member long enough to feel qualified to voice an opinion nor do I know enough about automatics yet but it's nice to see enthusiastic participation in a forum. :) Not sure if I'll be able to afford one, I'm in the process of buying files, sandpaper etc. etc. to have a go. :D I'...

Re: Latama Square Button questions

Thanks for responding Jim. The forum doesn't appear to have many participants :( Considering there aren't many more than about 12-15 or so knives of all sizes know in collectors hands, most of the people here have never seen one in person let alone held one in their hands. With that said I'm not su...

Re: UTX-85 button?

Glad you got your microtech fixed. Must admit the modern autos don't do it for me. I like a bayo or dagger blade that's at least a full 4 inches and some roundness/heft to the handle. Have'nt come across any moderns that fit all the points so far.

Latama Square Button questions

I have been doing alot of reading of late and have found the Latama square button protos quite interesting design wise. I read the following post by 'Ragtime Red' from 2003: "Jim, the 13" and 8" knives had swivel bolsters. The 9" knives have a clever mechanism that lifts the backspring when you push...

Re: Transitional models

Thank you for the information leads guys. I appreciate it. The button open/button closed version is very interesting and sounds like
a sophisticated/smart design. I wonder why it was dropped along the way?
