Re: Antonio Contini's blade profile

I think I may have mischaracterized his stilettos as 'Sicillian' when it's probably Sardinian.

Antonio Contini's blade profile

I've been admiring this man's blades. I noticed his blade profile often has this very nice, slightly pronounced belly on the lower half of the blade profile. It's a very nice aspect. I wonder if this a common Sicillian characteristic or just Senor Contini's thing.

Re: Question about how Paul Panak builds stiilettos

Watch the video at the 2 minute mark you can see how the Italian do it on the larger ones: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZvUlVJl9m8 Thanks. He's really torqueing it around there to make his 'adjustment' isn't he...it looks like it might be cold too although he's gripping it with the scales/liner...

Re: Question about how Paul Panak builds stiilettos

Bill, After the red hot heating of the back spring to do the lock tab twist.....should the spring be oil quenched and then tempered after that? [Assuming you were using some of the easier home treated steel].

Re: Newest addition to my collection - Walt's Latama picklock

I love the flat buttons...prefer that style over the round ones. That along with the flat guards and full cut bolsters are the ultimate for me.

Re: Walt's Latama Pearls

I think I'd have a beautiful rosewood box made with some abalone, black lip and MOP inlays to keep them in as a set.

Beauty. Do the bolster ears seem to have their own cut/look too?

Nice. Is the lock tab back spring made completely from scratch?

Re: Pivot Hole Lapping Necessity?

Thank you Bill. I was thinking it was probably due to the fact that most slip joints were peened in pivot pins and an exact fit would cause binding after peening in the pivot. May I ask, is it better? easier? to cut out stiletto back springs without the leaf spring? and cut/make the spring separatel...

Re: Belt sander recommendations!!

One other thing; if you are working with raw steel, you can get a lot done with a file. Profile changes on an existing blade, or anything with steel that has already been treated will require the sander, though. Are there no files that are useful on hardened steel? I thought that was what diamond f...

Pivot Hole Lapping Necessity?

Bill I read one of your posts on another forum where guys were recommending reaming and lapping pivot holes for slip joints to get perfect fit and you indicated that this was unneccesary for slip joint pivot holes and in fact the holes should be oversized [to some degree]. Does this just apply to sl...
