Re: Left handed sear help

The sear pieces I messed up were the USA made and they don't come with buttons but I do have one from an old project that I'd be glad to give you. Send me some info and I'll get it in the mail to you. I'm assuming you mean the standard silver one that's on an Italian.

Re: Left handed sear help

Hello again JB257. I made a quick sketch to make sure I understood your suggestion. Easier than trying to type it out. Is this what you mean?

Re: Left handed sear help

Hi guys, thanks for your response. In answer to JB's question yes the hole's already drilled. How much do you think it would be off? I might be able to use an oval button if it's not off a lot. Just a thought. I really don't wanna split the knife into two separate knives if I can avoid it. Again, th...

Re: Left handed sear help

Hello Bill, you're probably right about that but I don't know of any other sources for parts. If there's another place to get parts I haven't found it. I'd really like to finish this knife but making a sear from scratch myself isn't an option anymore. I'd gladly pay to have one made but I haven't ha...

Re: Left handed sear help

Hello everyone. I tried altering another sear and again the same issue, hair trigger. I've been through $50 worth of sears and way too much aggravation. At this point I think my best option is to just separate the knife and build two right hand knives, one ebony and one ivory. The gift for my wife i...

Re: Left handed sear help

They broke at the point of being flat. Whatever they're made of is extremely brittle

Re: Left handed sear help

They break at the point of being flat. Bending the opposite way was never an option. I also tried what Bill described, filing the bevel and milling a little groove in the liner. Either the blade didn't catch closed or if you even breathed on the firing button it popped open. I don't know what they'r...

Re: Left handed sear help

Hi JB257, yes I did. Hard to describe but to an orange color. Like I was bending a piece of round rod. I guess not enough

Re: Left handed sear help

Hello Mr DeShivs, thank you for responding. I've tried altering Italian parts as well as American and every result has been the same. I've also channeled out under the sear to increase the depth of the pin and end up with a hair trigger or no hold at all. Maybe I'm missing something. I'm open to any...

Re: Left handed sear help

Hello everyone, I decided to give JB257's suggestion a try but I'm not having any luck. I've destroyed two perfectly good RH Sears in the process so I think I'll call it quits. Lol, my mother used to tell me you'll never know if you don't try. I've often wondered why no one makes a left hand. I bet ...

Re: Left handed sear help

Hello again "JB257". If you could make one for me I would be extremely grateful. Of course I will compensate you for your time and trouble, I wouldn't feel right if I didn't. Honestly right now I can't physically do it and it's gonna be at least a couple weeks before I can do much of anything. Lucki...

Re: Left handed sear help

Hello, thanks for your quick reply. Yes, I'm using the USA made sear from SwitchbladeKits.com. I've already modified two RH sears by using the trim at the opposite bevel method. Both are close but come up short and I end up with a hair trigger. I've also channeled out the liner under the sear to inc...

Left handed sear help

Hello everyone. Once again I've been in the hospital with an unhappy heart but, lol, I refuse to give up. Now that I'm back home I'd like to get some stuff finished but I'm afraid I'm gonna need some help. I started a present for my wife a few months ago that I call Ebony and Ivory. It's a back to b...
