Re: Knife Shows and endless tactical flippers

Sorry but what does "early Aerials" refer to? The opening mechanism appears to be similar to Stan Moizis knives you talked about earlier (except Stan hides it inside). They both lift up the back spring to fire the knives. I believe that's what fastr19s comparison was meant to be. I was thinking the...

Re: Knife Shows and endless tactical flippers

Check out Pat Havlin's work. (picklock Pat). He mad the knife I pictured. Also that lever you are referring too was used in the early Aerials. Sorry but what does "early Aerials" refer to? Yes I know about Pat's knives. I was just making a rather lame point about the state of knife making these day...

Re: Knife Shows and endless tactical flippers

I've been looking at a couple of interesting automatics made by a guy named Stan Moizis aka Brno Brno. He has one with an interesting opening mechanism called his 'Dog Leg Automatic'. The novel firing button position is mounted on the outer edge of the scale on the blade opening side of the body and...

This one is not a true flat guard.
Bill, were those hammered into shape over a form or filed into shape?

Re: Knife Shows and endless tactical flippers

I was kind of meaning it would be nice to see more American made quality Italian stilettos as opposed to seeing Italian production models at the makers shows. Considering there are no end of American makers making gray tactical flippers. There's got to be more than a hundred of them.

That looks nice. Are they all Italian production knives?

Knife Shows and endless tactical flippers

I've watched a good few videos of knife shows and you see table after table of big grey tactical flippers. Everybody seems all in on the CNC type build flippers. I get that they're precision made with the very best materials and tolerances...but it would be a real treat to occasionally see a table o...

Synthetic Ivory

Bill do you have any preferences or recommendations? I know there have been a few around over the last couple of decades.

Wonder what size belt grinder wheel Mr. Panak uses to grind his 9 and 11 inch blades.

Re: Reading about blade lock pins on the 101 forum - Pin Question

Thanks Bill. I noted that integral pin question advice on the 101 forum. One other question if I may. Is it possible, [using a micrometer as you progress] to file a nice relief clearance around pivot holes on slip joint liners such that the use of washers aren't needed using only jewellers, escapeme...

Hey John, thanks for showing that Growitz and Chopra book. Also it appears Leroi Price published a follow up book on knife mechanisms with more mechanisms as well.

Reading about blade lock pins on the 101 forum - Pin Question

Bill. Do you need a mill to cut/form the locking pin on the blade ? Or can this be accomplished through deft file work? I don't mean making the pin and then press fitting it.
Thanks, and Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Would it be best to free hand the final twist of the tab or do guys use some kind of forming fixture?
