Re: Finetuning a couple of Condors
The hard shouldered V-shaped edge with an apex of +/- 30 degrees inclusive was changed into a soft shouldered convex shaped edge, also with an apex of +/- 30 degrees inclusive, with the help of a bastard file & a smooth file. Going to find out how a filed convex edge holds up in my use. I tried to m...

Re: Finetuning a couple of Condors
For me the Cold Steel kukri machete has proven to be very comfortable with it's contoured PVC handle, and even more so with a fuzzy finished surface. The PVC tends to shed most of the fuzzy bits after a few days of chopping, leaving a surface that is very hand friendly and doesn't produce any bliste...

Finetuning a couple of Condors
Currently busy finetuning two Condor choppers, a Bushcraft Parang and an Eco Golok machete. For years i've only used kukri models for trail clearing (a Tora Blades Camping kukri and a Cold Steel Kukri machete) here on the Veluwe, and the plan is to get some hands-on experience using a few other trie...

Re: Vintage French paratrooper dagger
Hi Ian, What would you consider quite expensive ? Where i live these French daggers are very hard to find (in any condition, but especially the well preserved first generation versions like this one), so i just tend to follow the ancient Dutch proverb: "better expensive than not for sale at all". 8)...

Vintage French paratrooper dagger
My latest find is this original first model French paratrooper dagger from the 1950's and/or 1960's. On the steel guard it reads "Poignard de Combat" and "Special Beret Rouge", which translates into something like: "combat poniard for red berets" https://i.postimg.cc/NyLjq0hS/image.jpg https://i.pos...

Re: Takamura R2 gyuto 210 sharpening
The factory edge on this Takamura gyuto was +/- 22.5 degrees inclusive, so yours is most likely comparable.

Re: Sabol Brothers gyuto's
There was a bit of a hick-up regarding the knives. After unwrapping the very well packaged parcel, then the individually wrapped knives in their black wooden saya's, and then removing these to inspect the blades, both edges reflected some light on the straight part of the blades, meaning they were a...

Anton Wingen Jr. Othello 4375 dagger
Vintage Othello (Anton Wingen Jr.) 4375 dagger from the early '80's, complete with leather sheath with steel beltclip on the reverse. The thick blade with ovalized ricasso is most likely made from drop-forged 440C steel, a process that Anton Wingen Jr. used to be famous for in it's day. Handle is po...

Re: Forever Diamond Titanium knives
Update: I asked Patrick who tested the knife in a commercial kitchen a while ago if he would ever consider buying one of these diamond titanium knives for the retail price they cost, and his answer was no. His two reasons: in hindsight he found the blade a bit too flexible for his specific uses, plu...

Re: Ebay Shun Classic 3-1/2-Inch Paring Knife
Kai Shun's VG10 steel knives suffer from chippy edges noticeably more compared to the same VG10 steel as heat treated by Sakai Takayuki and Tojiro.
