Re: Blade wobble fix

I have only peened a dozen or so pivot pins so not an expert peener- so this might be wrong. I have found that sometimes the pin seems a bit too long. If I carefully take a file and take down some of the metal on the ends (dome), I can more easily go around the pin and tighten with softer strikes. ...

Re: Blade wobble fix

Don't put it in a vise. When peening, you are deforming the head of the pin further. I shall trust your wisdom Mr. DeShivs. No vise. Should i peen one side of the knife or both sides equally? I spent most of my concentration the pin on the right bolster (the one that releases the blade) because its...

Re: Blade wobble fix

I’m sure this is a silly question, but you are lightly tapping each side of the pivot pin and not only one side? Yes. Is there one side of the knife I should concentrate more on? The blade still has good kick when fired and no back/fourth or up/down wobble, just the side x side play which got worse...

Bill DeShivs wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2020 10:28 pm The only way you could have made it worse is by not using an anvil (or similar) to support the back side of the pin you are peening.
I used the flat surface on my table vise. Hmm it's definitely more wobbely than it was. Could I have been hitting it too hard or at an improper angle?

Re: Blade wobble fix

So after doing some research on peening bolster pins, I attempted to try it myself but I haven't seen much if any difference in the pins themselves and I seemed to habe made the blade wobble slightly worse. I probably won't make anymore attempts to tighten the blade myself but I was wondering if any...

That's what I thought. Thank you

Blade wobble fix

The side by side blade wobble on my bolster lock Italian stiletto has gotten noticably worse since I first got it about a month ago. The gap between the brass liner and the blade has gotten wider too. I know blade wobble is to be expected and I have been playing this thing quite a bit so I take full...

Re: What Do You Want to See Made?

Have you seen these? They have ears. https://www.grindworx.com/cat--Mago-Italian-Stiletto-OTF-Knife--684 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LmR8ZgdulvQ I have. They look cool and they have a similar appearance to the old NATO OTFs but I want an exact replica with a more solid construction and spring. ...

What Do You Want to See Made?

What would you guys personally like to see made or just more of in the "auto world"? Personally I'd like to see someone reproduce the NATO Military OTF's, especially one that is somewhat functional as more than just a letter opener. I know AKC has the Concord OTF's which are similar and if they'd ad...

Re: Questions from a Noob

I've seen some beautiful work from both Frank and Armando as well as Renzo B. Infact I'm currently torn between an 11" black horn bayo or a an 11" stag dagger stiletto both by Renzo. I know Frank B is considered by many to be the best of the Italian makers (at least in the sub $200 range) but I've a...

Re: Questions from a Noob

Thanks for the link. I've noticed over the last few days, Grindworx has been getting in some new Italian autos including some Frank B 11" swinguards and 2 standard 9" stilettos (1 bayo and 1 dagger) with cocobolo scales. The dagger is $70 though while the bayo is over $100. I'd be more temped of it ...

Re: Questions from a Noob

Just my 2 cents. There really isn't a difference in the quality of a chinese stiletto and one supposedly made in taiwan. If you are going to buy either, you may as well get the cheapest.imo. The cheapest Italian stilettos aren't much better they just now cost twice what they are worth. Expensive le...

Sorry about that. I saw the notification bell at the top of my page and thought I was responding to a PM. Totally my bad.
